So, I'm in week 2 of teaching. For my middles schoolers, I've decided to make tokens for them to collect in order to earn free movie tickets. I made a ton by hand and it was fun--at first. I drew Pucca, a Korean cartoon character, on about 15 of them. Now I'm good at drawing her. And I got to test out my markers a bit more by blending and they're really good. Made in Korea (ShinHan Art, Inc).
I was feeling a little repetitive with my encouraging, English phrases, so I typed "ways to say 'good job'" in the search bar and got me a big ol' list . About a third were in all caps and my favourite was "FINE." To me, it read as "NOT GREAT."
Apparently, if I go down to the bus stop for school (which is a city bus, mind you) after 7:35, a bus is NOT going to come again in time for me to get to work without being late (the drive takes about 40 minutes). While I saw TWO 180 buses go in the wrong direction from 7:40 to 8:20, none came my way. So, I took a taxi (spending about $15) and ran in the building just in time for class. But there was no class today. It was fitness testing day. I was still feeling grateful that I was in the building by 8:50 (while I'm supposed to be in by 8:30), that when my co-teacher told me, I was bummed because I had a banging lesson plan for today. BUT THEN, I realized that I could do it tomorrow and I'd have to write one less lesson plan this week (I'm out of cool ideas after this week, so I have to brainstorm again for Monday, though).
On Saturday, went to an okay artist's talk, and then grabbed some dinner with the featured artists. I got to tell Doug (who is American) that his painting was my favourite....and he's a cute little dude. Sunday I went to a local temple with my doppelganger. I hadn't drawn from life in two months and I brought the wrong tools....I didn't produce anything very...recognizable, but hey, gotta start somewhere. The temples were AMAZING but I felt funny about taking pictures. Maybe next time I will. I didn't expect the temples to be so colorful..and the woodwork, especially under the awnings, was ASTOUNDING. All of it was built without nails. The mountains were gorgeous.
OH. THANK. G-D. We can go now. We didn't end up being allowed to leave early at all today as my co-teacher suggested.
--Goes home, hopping on the wrong 180, and having to make a transfer (a free transfer because I got a buscard!)--
Oh, so fitness day was cute. The kids had to do the same things we do in America for the Presidential fitness day in gym class...but theirs took all day and the whole school did it at once with the teachers helping to measure. I bopped around outside for two hours, watching and cheering, then went in to make tokens. I need to develop a reward system for my high schoolers, too, methinks. I got some advice on the from a foreigner I met last night living in my apartment building. She also taught me how to change the light bulbs in my studio space. And had puppies!

Going to some Gwangju art galleries this weekend...not sure if it's Saturday or Sunday. I want to make sure I draw again, too. Ok, Tammy's tired. That's it for now.
